Microsoft Outlook's (i) RSS (RDF Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) (ii) feature has been very handy to have over the years.  I've used it and it's never failed.  But recently, I've heard of reports that the RSS feature in Outlook fails.

If that's happening to you, then you could check the following settings in Outlook:

  • Go to File/Options/Advanced.  Scroll to 'RSS Feeds' and make sure that both boxes, 'Add RSS Feed item that is updated appears as new' and 'Synchronize RSS Feeds to the Common Feed List (CFL) in Windows  are ticked.

  • Go to File/Account Settings/Account Settings and select the RSS Feeds tab.  Click on New and enter the RSS feed address here.

  • Go to File/Options/General and scroll to 'Privacy Settings'.  Click the button for Privacy Settings.  Scroll down to ‘All Connected Experiences’ and tick the box.  OK out of all screens.

Of course, all of the above is meaningless if your RSS address is incorrect.  Make sure that you have the correct address.  Enter the address into Outlook's RSS and you should receive posts, updated when new ones are published.
