Guernsey has many surprises.  Everywhere you go there are sea views, wonderful bays, small villages and wonderful friendly people.

We have been to Guernsey twice in 2025, staying at the excellent La Barbarie hotel. Driving on Guernsey is different to the UK. The roads can be very narrow and the speed limit is 35mph on the larger roads.  There are different road markings (watch out for the filters at junctions), but in our experience everyone is very courteous and forgiving.  The hire cars have a H sticker on the front and back which may help the locals identify drivers who need a bit more space and time.  I would say that the roads are in very good condition.

Guernsey has a small, single runway airport with easy bus access and good parking.

One trip I'd recommend is to the island of Herm to see the puffins.  We really enjoyed that.  Other places would include Cobo Bay, Icart, Jerburgh and The Little Chapel.  St. Peter Port, the capital of Guernsey, is a charming friendly town with harbours, lovely shops and cobbled streets.  The people are very friendly and interesting to talk with.

One thing to note: there are public toilets and benches everywhere.  Very handy and a lesson that other places should learn.

We'd recommend Guernsey to anyone who wants a slower pace of life with their visit.
